يتناول كتاب "بالسيارة إلى السودان" الرحلة المثيرة التي قام بها الكونت لاسلو ألماشي ورفيقه الأمير أنطال أسترهازي إلى السودان عام 1926 والتي قاما بها بواسطة السيارة، وهي أول رحلة سفر بالسيارة بين بلدين. كما يتطرق المؤلف إلى مغامراته في الصيد في أدغال السودان وبراريها ويتناولها بالتفصيل الدقيق. ولقد كان الدافع في كل ذلك هو عشقه وولعه بالسيارات وكذلك بصيد الحيوانات البرية، فضلا عن رغبته في التعمق في أدغال القارة الأفريقية المجهولة.
بالإضافة إلى ذلك، قدّم المؤلف، من خلال سرده لبعض يوميات صيده في السودان، العديد من النصائح المتعلقة بالحيوانات البرية وأشكالها وخصائصها وطبيعتها وقوانين الصيد والغابة ومحاذيرهما، متطرقا إلى وصف كافة الطيور التي رآها في الغابة، واصفا الأشجار والنباتات والتلال والمروج والأنهار والأحواض والبرك والمستنقعات التي مر بها، ولم يبخل على قارئه بأيٍ من الخبرات التي اكتسبها خلال رحلته في الأدغال الأفريقية وحكى بشكل مفصّل مغامراتهما الخطرة مع الحيوانات البرية والوحوش الأفريقية كالجاموس البري والنمور، وأعطى وصفا دقيقا لكل حيوان قام باصطياده وسرد أحداث وطريقة اصطياده. كل ذلك يسير بشكل جذاب وممتع.
صدرت الترجمة العربية الأولى للكتاب من المجرية، عن الدار المصرية للترجمة والطباعة والنشر بالقاهرة، بترجمة الدكتور عبد الله عبد العاطي عن النجار.
