زندگینامه و شرح فعالیتها و آثار یحیی بن شرف نَوَوی – از فقهای شافعی برجسته شام در قرن هفتم هجری- است. هدف از تألیف این اثر، جدا از معرفی شخصیت برجسته علمی و اخلاقی امام نوَوی، معرفی یك الگوی بزرگ دینی به دوستداران علم و ادب است. نویسنده، كتاب را با معرفی خانواده، زادگاه و چگونگی رشد و نموّ امام نوَوی آغاز و در ادامه، اساتید او را در رشتههای فقه، اصول، حدیث ، صرف و نحو معرفی میكند. سپس، ضمن اشاره به نقش مهم امام در شكوفاییِ علوم اسلامی در دوران زندگیاش، حكایتهای گوناگونی را از زندگی او نقل میكند كه همگی دال بر بزرگی و كرامت نفسِ آن بزرگوار است. سیره زندگی امام نووی و عادتهای شخصیاش و شرح و معرفی تألیفات و شاگردان او از دیگر موضوعات كتاب است.
