رواية مخادعة و مماوهة، تُنبئ بداياتها في مشهدها الإفتتاحي بروايات العشق و الرومانسية المعتادة، التي تنشئ و تنموا من دوافع نقيضة من الشخصيتين المعنيتين، لكن ليست هذه الرواية، فهي تأخذ منعطفات إعتباطية و غير متوقعة تجعلها تبدوا سادرة المعنى و ساهمة الهدف، و تدخل أعماق و ثنايا لا يتوقعها القارئ، و لم تمهد لها إرصانات الحبكة، لكونها صادرة من نوابع ترغب في التضليل و التلاعب في المفاهيم، فبطل القصة ليس بطلٌ حقيقياً لها كما لم يكن همبرت بطلاً لرواية 'لوليتا'، فهو لا يقاوم نزعاته و لا يهذب سلوكه، و البطلة ليست بطلةٌ حقيقيةً للقصة، ليس لعطباً أو شائبةً فيها لكن ليس لسوى كونها بالكاد تطل علينا إلا بين فترةٌ و أخرى، و لا يُعنى لها شئناً في الصورة الأكبر للرواية، فما تُبنى عليه هذه الرواية لا ينموا و لا يشبوا، و ما يُزرع و ما يُسقى لا يشجر و لا يثمر، فما هذه الرواية ألا عقماً يتبعه سخط، و سخطاً يتبعه إحباط، و إحباطاً يتبعه ذبول، و ذُبولٌ لا بَعد له.
