تدور أحداث الرواية عن طفل طَموح نشأ في أسرة فقيرة أو بالأحرى معدومة المال ، وكان يعاني كثيراً في حياته الشخصية والدراسية مثل الكثير من الأطفال بسبب الفقر ، ولكنه كان يجد والداه يُحفزانه ويرويان عزيمته وطموحه بكلماتهم العذَبة ، وتمر الأيام ويتوفى والده ،وهو لازال يُكمل دراسته ويعمل ليوفر احتياجات أسرته بقدر الإمكان ، وتمر السنوات سريعًا ويضطر إلى مغادرة البلاد بهجرة غير شرعية بصحبة فتاة قبطية تُدعى ماريان لإنه مطلوب القبض عليهما سيعملان سويًا بعد عناء في مطعم بوتشينو ، بعد مشاقة السفر التي واجهتهم عبر البحار وموت بعض الذين كانوا معهم سيقعان في شباك الحب وسيمران بمواقف عصيبة وسيضطر صاحبنا إلى الهرب من المطعم وترك صديقته وحبيبته، وسيعمل في إحدى الشركات ولكن سيتفاجئ فيما بعد أنه يعمل مع المافيا وسيصبح ثريا ولكن سيؤنبه ضميره بعد حدوث موقف ويُخبر زعيمهم أنه يريد ترك العمل ولكن قد نسي أنه وافق على العمل دون أن يعلم حتى ماهية العمل حتى ، لكنه حينها لم يكن امامه سوى الموافقة لينجو من الإعدام شنقًا لقتله دون قصد ضابط شرطة أثناء الهرب .
