يتناول هذا النص العلاقة الروحية المُضرة التي قد تستمر بين الأحياء وذويهم الراحلين، مبيناً أن الشعور المستمر بوجود الفقيد، خاصة إذا أدى إلى أعراض مرضية كالأرق والوهن والاكتئاب، هو إشارة لضرورة فك الارتباط الروحي. ويصف الكتاب بالتفصيل فعل القطع كطريقة بسيطة وعملية لتحرير الذات والروح المتعلقة بالأرض معاً، مؤكداً على أنه واجب على قيد الحياة تجاه نفسه وتجاه المُفارِق. ويُقدم إرشادات واضحة لأداء هذا الفعل في مكان هادئ، عبر التنفس الهادئ، ومن ثم التواصل الواعي لشرح سبب الانفصال، وطمأنة الروح بوجود النور الإلهي المُرشِد وبضرورة رحيلها للوصول إليه. كما يحذر النص من التدخل لمساعدة الآخرين في هذا الأمر دون إذن صريح، باستثناء الأقارب المباشرين. ويستشهد الكتاب بدراسات تؤكد المعاناة الصحية للناجين، ويختتم بحديث رمزي عن "المُعلِّم" وعملية اليقظة الروحية، مُشدداً على أن فهم الحقيقة المطلقة للموت كجزء من دورة الحياة يُلغي الحاجة لعمليات الإنقاذ هذه، داعياً إلى قبول الحياة في كليتها...
