لقد طلب مني الدكتور زياد الدريس أن أسطّر كلمات لتقديم كتابه: (النضال الدبلوماسي)، ولقد سمعت أن أستجيب لهذا الطلب، ليس فقط لمعرفتي بالكاتب وما أثرى به معارف قراء عاموده في جريدة الحياة، ولكن لأنني خبرته صادقاً في ما يكتب ومبدعاً في ما يعبّر عنه.
ولم يخب ظني في قراءتي للكتاب، فوجدت عن عذب الكلام ما يشدّني لأُتمّ القراءة في برهة واحدة، لأنه يوصّل لأسلوب السهل الممتنع.
فما أجمل الجمل التي عبّر بها عن الشأن الفلسطيني، فها هو يصف المرحوم الشيخ أحمد ياسين فيقول: "أن يكون عين النضال التي لم يُصبها رماد الشغف بمقايضة الشعب بالكرسي، زَهِد هو في كرسيّه المتحرك بينما تشبّث آخرون بكرسي ساكن، عندما اغتيل ياسين، رثته فتح بــ (حماس) ووصفت حماس اغتياله بال (فتح) القريب"، يا له من قلمٍ يتقن المفردات ويتفنّن في تداولها.
ثم يعرج الدريس إلى ما وصف به مآسي العرب بشأن فلسطين فيقول: "بعد النكبة والنكسة والنكثة (ويعني بذلك نكوث زعامات العالم عن الوفاء بعهودهم لحل قضية فلسطين) بدأت تظهر الآن في العلن مظاهر المرحلة الرابعة ويمكن وصفها بالنكتة"!.
