إسحاق دويتشر (1907 - 1967) هو من أبرز الاختصاصيين في شؤون الاتحاد السوفييتي، وهو مؤلف كتاب ممتاز عن حياة تروتسكي يقع في ثلاثة أجزاء: "النبي المسلح" و"النبي الأعزل" و"النبي المنبوذ". ولعله، في مقدمته هذه، خير من يستطيع تعريف القارء العربي على تروتسكي. لأنه قادر على إزالة التشويه الفظيع الذي تراكم خلال عشرات سنين على فكر هذا الرجل ونضاله مع احتفاظه بموضوعية الباحث عن الحقيقة.

بعد كتابه "النبي المسلح" يعرض المؤلف في "النبي الأعزل" حياة تروتسكي وأعماله من عام 1921 وحتى عام 1929 عندما غادر تروتسكي الاتحاد السوفياتي منفياً. وهو في هذا الكتاب يروي قصة تشكل الاتحاد السوفياتي، وحين كان تروتسكي متربعاً على قمة السلطة وقد استعان الكاتب على ذلك بمحفوظات تروتسكي وأشخاص آخرين، إضافة إلى ذكرياته الشخصية وبعض الأصدقاء الذين كانوا على صلة به. ويشير الكاتب في بعد كتابه "النبي المسلح" يعرض المؤلف في "النبي الأعزل" حياة تروتسكي وأعماله من عام 1921 وحتى عام 1929 عندما غادر تروتسكي الاتحاد السوفياتي منفياً. وهو في هذا الكتاب يروي قصة تشكل الاتحاد السوفياتي، وحين كان تروتسكي متربعاً على قمة السلطة وقد استعان الكاتب على ذلك بمحفوظات تروتسكي وأشخاص آخرين، إضافة إلى ذكرياته الشخصية وبعض الأصدقاء الذين كانوا على صلة به. ويشير الكاتب في الصفحات الأولى من الكتاب أن الديكتاتورية البروليتارية كانت ظافرة بعد الثورة، لكنها اختفت تماماً تقريباً، وأدى تشتت الطبقة العاملة القديمة إلى ظهور فراع في روسيا المدينية إذ لم تعد الطبقة العاملة سوى صدفة فارغة.
يقع الكتاب في ستة فصول الفصل الأول: المقدرة والحلم، الفصل الثاني: اللعنة، الفصل الثالث: ليس بالسياسة وحدها يحيا الإنسان، الفصل الرابع: فاصل صغير. الفصل الخامس: المعركة الحاسمة 1926-1927، الفصل السادس: سنة في ألما-آتا. ففي كانون الثاني/ يناير غادر تروتسكي وعائلته ألما-آتا بحراسة جيدة إلى فرونزمي عبر صحراء جيدة ومحركوردابي حيث نفي بعدها إلى القسطنيطينية.
