"جمود الحضر هو الموت الذي غلّ قدميّ وحرمني من الترحال. لم يتبق لي الآن إلا الترحال في الكلمات كما كل منفي. وحين يلح عليّ الحنين لتقول هذا العالم الآيل إلى الزوال، تعيد زهرة للبدو ترحالهم ومحطاتهم. مع طبول الكثبان وتهتك الرمل. مع الصمت الراسخ فوق الرقاق. كانت زهرة هي الصحراء، تتربع أمام البيت مستندة إلى ركبتيها وتحدق في الأفق، تعلق بشفتيها ابتسامة حزينة ويتغضن جبينها تحت وشومه، بدت وكأنها منجذبة بكلينها إلى ذكرى ما وحريصة على استعادتها أو ربما تجميلها قليلاً".
على إيقاعات البندير، تلتهب حناجر النساء صرخة واحدة. أصواتهن الجريحة تتعالى أشبه بنشوة الرمال تمرّغها ريح الصحراء. تهتز الصدور بعذوبة. تغلق الأعين أجفانها ناظرة إلى الداخل. يقرع البندير انتحابات الأزمنة كلها في الرؤوس. يتمايل الجسد الراي.
جراح طافية وصرخات غريبة تزمجر في خفايا الانفعال الذي تؤججه زغردة الجوقة. تنتظر كل امرأة أغنيتها. إيقاع وكلمات على مقاس ألمها. تمنحها إياها مرافقاتها. وهي تتلقاها مُطْلِقَةً العنان للجسد مستسلمةً لوقع البندير المتزايد بكل ما في الجنون الجامح من جمالٍ، القدمان تقرعان الأرض بعنف كما تقرع الأيدي الصديقة الطبول، الخلاخل تصطك... وتدوّي الأرض بهذه الضربات مثل دقّات قلوبهن المتسارعة. النساء المدوّمات، النساء المتمايلات، بجرأة خرساء يحررن بطناً أو وركاً متروكين للنسيان منذ زمن طويل.
الضربات والأغاني تدور معالجة الأجساد التي تتهادى إرهاقاً فتهدأ وتستسلم النساء اللاهثات وقد أفرغن من كل طاقة وإرادة ورغبة. بعضهن يشهقن بالبكاء بعدما تحررن من المخاوف والمكبوتات. ثمَّ تمتد أيدٍ لهن وتساعدهن في النهوض. يعدن للجلوس في الصّف. يُقدم لهن كأس شاي يحتسينه بصمت. ثمَّ يعاودن الغناء وقرع البندير للتمكن الأخريات أيضاً من تفريغ الأحزان الدفينة.
