"كتاب المعجم" من الكتب التي اشتهرت للإمام تاج الدين عبد الخالق بن أسد بن ثابت الحنفي توفي (564هـ)، ولأهميته قام الأستاذ نبيل سعد الدين جرار يتحقيقه، فاهتم بضبط النص، ومواقفه المطبوع للمخطوط، وتصحيح التحريفات أو التصفيحات، والتخريج بالعزو للصحيحين أو أحدهما إن وجد، والكتب المشهورة.
و(كتاب المعجم) في مضمونه ذكر فيه المصنف الإمام تاج الدين: شيوخه الذين سمع منهم من الرجال والنساء. ولم يذكر فيه مشايخه بالإجازة، كما أبان عن ذلك في تقدمته حيث قال: وسطرت ما سمعته عن الرجال والنساء، ولم أذكر فيه رواية بالإجازة عمن أجاز لي من المشايخ، كما هو مذهب أصحاب الحديث. وبلغت مشيخة الإمام تاج الدين (287) شيخاً وشيخة، وعدد النساء منهن (17) وأقدمهم وفاة محمد بن علي بن الشرابي، المتوفى سنة (525هـ)، وآخرهم وفاة ذاكر بن كاملٍ، المتوفى سنة (591هـ). وذكرهم مرتبين على حروف المعجم، باعتبار الإسم الأول فقط، ولم يراع الترتيب الهجائي فيما بعده، بل إنه لم يراع الترتيب الهجائي في الأسماء التي تبتدئ بنفس الحرف، فنجده يذكر "حمزة" قبل "الحسن"، و"عيسى" قبل "عتيق" و"مسعود" قبل "مبارك". وذكر النساء في آخر كل حرفٍ، بعد ذكر مشايخه من الرجال، واقتصر تعريفه بمشايخه بذكر أسمائهم وأنسابهم، وفي بعض المواضيع يذكر سنة المولد والوفاة. من هنا تبدو أهمية عمل المحقق الأستاذ نبيل جرار في ترتيبه مشايخ الكتاب على حروف المعجم مع إفراد أسماء النساء في موضع واحد بعد أسماء الرجال، مع ترجمة موجزةٍ لهم، نقل فيها ما قاله المصنف في هذا "المعجم" عن شيوخه، وفي آخر الترجمة ذكر أرقام الأحاديث والآثار التي أسندها المصنف عنهم...
