كتاب المسلم عدواً وصديقاً للكاتب ماريا سوليداد في نهاية العقد الاول من المائة الميلادية الثامنة فتح المسلمون إسبانيا والتي عرفت بالأندلس، وقد كان هذا العمل تطوراً طبيعياً وضرورة استراتيجية للفتح الإسلامي للمغرب العربي، حيث كانت إسبانيا تمثل تهديدا للوجود الإسلامي الوليد في إفريقيا. وقد حدث ذلك التهديد بالفعل في عام 622م خينما حاصر المسلمون "قرطاجنة" فعاون ملك إسبانيا القوطي الرومان حيث أزعجه اقتراب المسلمين من بلاده، وهكذا حملت اجزاء جغرافية من شبه الجزيرة الأيبرية أسماء الفاتحين المسلمين لتخلد ذكراهم. الكتاب يعالج العديد من النقاط، على رأسها التقديم الفلكلورى لصوره المسلم من خلال تمثيليات للمسلمين والمسيحيين ووضعها الحالى، ثم الأصول التاريخيه لتلك المسرحيات ودور الأغانى الشعبيه فى تكوين هذا التراث، ثم بعض الأمثله لمسرحيات تأثرت بالأغانى وتقدم صوره المسلم من جوانب مختلفه، كما يتحدث الكتاب عن دور الفاتح المسلم في نشر الثقافات في أسباتيا في الوقت الذي كانت فيه دول اوربا تغوص في الظلام والتخلف وخلال القرنين الثاني عشر والثالث عشر احست إسبانيا لنصرانية نفسها منجذبة بقوة تحو الثقافة الإسلامية التي كانت مصدر إشعاع حينذاك، وكانت نفس الوقت تقوم بمعارك همجية ضد الإمبرطوريات الإفريقية اللاتي كن يدافعن عن الإسلام بالحرب والسياسة. ويمكن تلخيص ما يقدمه الكتاب بالفولكلور المسرحي لصورة المسلم ، وهو عبارة عن بعض المشاهد التي تمثل بقايا مسرحيات تم اقتباس موضوعها وأجزاء رئيسية منها من الأغاني الشعبية، وتأخذ شكل استعراض صامت كذلك يقدم أصل تلك الصورة.
