الكتاب هو في الأصل أطروحة دكتوراه نوقشت بتونس ونالت صاحبتها درجة الشرف الاستثنائيّة بإحرازها تقدير اللجنة وهي ملاحظة لا تسند إلا بعد تصويت سريّ يشترط فيه إجماع كلّ الأعضاء. و تناقش الباحثة في هذا الكتاب نظريّة علما في اللسانيّات المعرفيّة هي نظريّة المزج التصوريّ Conceptual Blending كما قدّماها صاحبها الفرنسيّ جيل فوكونيي والأمريكيّ مارك تورنر. وهي نظريّة في القدرات العرفانيّة عند البشر تزعم الكشف عن الآليّات الذهنيّة اللاواعية التي وضعت الطبيعة دونها حجابا في الفهم، وتزعم كذلك الكشف عن مبادئها المسيّرة وقيودها المتحكّمة كشفا يغالب استعصاءها الطبيعيّ على الاستبطان. وإن كانت هذه النظريّة لم تحظ بعد بالشهرة اللازمة في مجال البحث اللسانيّ العربيّ فإنّ آثارها في توجيه سياق البحث العالميّ في العرفانيّات عموما وفي اللسانيّات العرفانيّة خصوصا واقعٌ لا يمكن إنكاره، بل إنّ الدراسات المهتمّة بهذه النظريّة وتطبيقاتها لا تكاد اليوم تحصى كثرة. وإذا كان معظمها مكتوبًا باللسان الانجليزيّ فإنّ قسما كبيرا منها يُكتب أيضًا في الألسن الأكثر انتشارا في العالم مثل الصينيّة والاسبانيّة. ولا تتعلّق تطبيقات النظريّة بأنحاء هذه الألسن فحسب بل تشمل أيضا، فيما تذكره المؤلّفة، أنحاء الفرنسيّة والألمانيّة والروسيّة والعبريّة وغيرها. كما أنّها لم تقتصر على المبحث اللسانيّ فقد وجدت لها تطبيقات مهمّة في السرديّات وفي علم الموسيقى وفي الرياضيّات وفي علم الاجتماع.
