في كل رواياتها تقلب مليكة مقدم صوراً من سيرة تلك الفتاة الجزائرية، التي عايشت احتلال فرنسا للجزائر، وحملت أحلام محيطها في جزائر حرة.
بذاكرة مجروحة، وروح تخزن حباً كبيراً لذلك البلد، تكتب آملة أن تتحقق تلك الأحلام التي راودت الجزائريين الذين هبوا ضد الاحتلال ودفعوا ثمناً غالياً لحريتهم.
تلك الحرية التي ما إن تخلصت من سيطرة الاحتلال، حتى خضعت لسيطرة أقسى ممن ادعوا أنهم حماة شرف المجتمع الجزائري وعودته لأصوله.
طحنت التحولات التي حصلت في الجزائر بعد الاستقلال أحلام أمثال مليكة مقدم، كما طحنتها الحرب وعمليات القتل الرهيبة.
من كل هذه الآلام تكتب مليكة مقدم عملاً تتناوبه السيرة وخيال الرواية. تكتب رغبتها في التمرد والخلاص من السيطرة في أفق حرية الإنسان في مجتمع فقد قدرته على الحلم بالقيامة، وأخضع المرأة فيه بشكل خاص لمجموعة من القيود نزعت عنها أبسط الحقوق الإنسانية. رواية/سيرة معجونة بالألم والحلم.
