هذا كتاب في اللسانيات وعنوانه كما ظهر في لغته الأصلية "لسانيات الكذب" (Linguistik der Lüge) وهذا وجه من وجوه التجديد التي تضمنها الكتاب.
فقد تخلى عن نقد الكذب وذمّه والتغني في محاسن الصدق ومدحه، وابتعد عن وجهة النظر الأخلاقية أو الدينية - الفلسفية في تناول الكذب، فذاك سبيل مبتذلٌ، تناوله القدامى والمحدثون بطرق شتى مدعوماً بنظريات نفسية أو إجتماعية أو حتى تعليمية أحياناً.
في المقابل، لم تُتناول مسألة الكذب هذه من الناحية اللغوية، وإن كانت ثمة بعض الملاحظات المبثوثة في كتب الأولين لم يفت "فاينريش" الإشارة إليها والإعتماد عليها والإنطلاق منها في تحليل ظاهرة الكذب.
