الحمد لله الأول والآخر، والظاهر والباطن، الخالق البارئ المصور، أعطى كل شيء خلقه ثم هدى، والصلاة والسلام على نبينا محمد وعلى آله وصحبه أجمعين.
الهدف من هذا البحث ليس جمع المعلومات ومجرد تكديسها، بل الهدف منه هو محاولة فهم التركيب الذري من ناحية عملية، أي البحث في السّبل والتجارب الفعلية التي تم من خلالها استنباط النظريات المختلفة عن التركيب الذري والترابط بين الذرات. يبدأ البحث من الصفر، ويتدرج في منحى تاريخي مرورا بالشخصيات المختلفة التي ساهمت في التنقيب في علم الكيمياء والكيمياء الفيزيائية، وصولا إلى العلم النهائي الذي يدرس التركيب الذري وهو علم فيزياء الكم الذي يدرس تكوين نماذج نظرية تحكم التركيب الذري، لم يُتعمق كثيرا في فيزياء الكم، لكن هذا البحث يقدم مقدمة جيدة عنه. وينتهي البحث بلمحة عن أنواع الروابط الذرية وبعض الأمثلة عليها.
