تقدّمت رويده زوجة خالد خطوة داخل المكتب بأقدام لم تعد تحملها .. لكنها توقّفت فجأة كأن الهواء ثَقُل حولها .. أو كأن ملاك الموت مر من امامها .. سقطت دموعها كالمطر و اهتزّ صوتها حين همست :
ـ :"خالد ؟ خالد يا روحي اجبني "
لم يأتِها أي رد ّ.. حتى صمتُ المكان كان بارداً غريباً كأنه لا ينتمي لهذا البيت ..
سقطت يد رويده من على ظهر الكرسي المقابل لزوجها .. وارتجف قلبها ارتجافاً قوياً .. كانت تنظر إلى زوجها المائل على كرسيّه ، إلى عينيه المفتوحتين دون حياة .. وكأن جسده ما زال يحاول قول شيء لم يُكمل قوله ..
أما لينا فقد وضعت يدها على فمها وحاولت أن تتنفس بانتظام لكن صدرها كان يرتفع بارتباك مؤلم .
