The Author Book Al-fihrist by ibn al-nadim - dar al-maarifah edition and the author of 13 another books.
النديم عرف بـ ابن النديم وقد حقق الدكتور أيمن فؤاد سيد الاسم الصحيح في تحقيقه لكتاب الفهرست، هو أبو الفرج محمد بن اسحاق بن محمد بن اسحاق الوراق البغدادي توفي في الأول من شعبان من عام 384هـ أو عام 1047م وأبوه هو الوراق. وقد كان النديم أديب وكاتب سيرة ومصنف وجامع فهارس صاحب الكتاب المعروف كتاب الفهرست الذي جمع فيه كل ما صدر من الكتب والمقالات العربية في زمنه. لا يعرف الكثير عن حياته ولا سبب كنيته بابن النديم. من أهل بغداد، وقد عاش في بغداد وعمل كاتباً وخطاطا ونساخا للكتب وهي مهنة ورثها عن أبيه.
تتلمذ على يد السيرافي [؟] وعلي بن هارون المنظم والفيلسوف أبو سليمان المنطقي. وانتسب إلى جماعة علي بن عيسى وزير بني الجراح العارف بأصول المنطق وسائر علوم الاغريق والفرس [؟] والهنود كما فعل صاحبه الخطاط يحيى بن عدي.
كتابه الرئيس كان كتاب الفهرست الذي نشره عام 938 والذي قال عنه في مقدمته أنه جامع لكل ما صدر من الكتب العربية وغير العربية، وكان بذلك ابن النديم أول المصنفين في العالم حيث لم يكن قبله الا كتب تصنف الشعر والشعراء تسمى الطبقات. وكان هو من أدخل كلمة الفهرست الفارسية إلى العربية.

كما ضمنه آراءه عن أفلاطون وأرسطو وأصل كتاب ألف ليلة وليلة والأهرام والسحر والتطير وغيرها من مختلفات المواضيع، ولقد حققه الدكتور أيمن فؤاد سيد في عدة أجزاء.
