The Three Musketeers is an exciting piece of fiction set in France in the years 1626-28, when Charles I was King of England and Louis XIII was King of France. War broke out between the two countries in 1627, and the siege of La Rochelle is historical fact, as also is Buckingham's assassination in the following year.
This book has been specially adapted for those for whom English is a second or foreign language, and who have reached at least a lower intermediate level. It will be suitable, in fact, for anyone who finds the original book too long or too difficult.
Particularly difficult sentence structures have been avoided, though every effort has been made to retain something of the style of the original.
