هو صاحب الفضيلة الشيخ العالم المحقق, الفقيه المفسر, الورع الزاهد، محمد بن صالح بن محمد بن سليمان بن عبد الرحمن آل عثيمين من الوهبة من بني تميم.
ولد في ليلة السابع والعشرين من شهر رمضان المبارك، عام (1347ﻫ) في عنيزة -إحدى محافظات القصيم- في المملكة العربية السعودية.

تدور صفحاته حول العلم وفضائله وحكم طلبه والآداب الواجب اتباعها، والأسباب المعينة على الطلب، وطرق تحصيله، والأخطاء الواجب أن يحذر منها، والكتب المطلوبة لطالب العلم، وفتاوى حول العلم، وفوائد متنوعة في العلم، ثم رسائل ثمانية؛ عن حسن الخلق، وخلاف العلماء، والحث على حفظ كتاب الله وتلاوته وتعلمه، والتحذير من الحسد، وخطر التقول على العلماء، وبيان الموقف الصحيح نحو العلماء، وخطر التحزب وضرره، وقد جمعت مادة هذا الكتاب من خلال لقاءات الشيخ رحمه الله وكلماته في هذا الشأن.
