وأنا هنا أكتب ذكرياتي وليس مذكراتي، فلست رجل سياسة، أو رجل سلطة وسلطان حتى أكتب مذكراتي، التي قد يقف أمامها التاريخ ليحاكم ويضع الأحكام ويفصل في القضايا، إنما أنا إنسان وجد في نفسه وفي حياته خصوصية ما يختلف من خلالها عن كثير من الناس، فوجد نفسه ملزماً أمام نفسه أولاً وأمام أهله وعائلته ومجتمعه ثانياً، سافرت كثيراً، عشت فترات من الزمن مضطربة، حروب وصراعات وانقلابات واغتيالات، صعود زعامات وغياب آخرون، احتلال دول وسقوط عواصم، واستقلال شعوب وقيام دول، علو طوائف وتهاوي طوائف، انقسام شعوب وحكومات.
غربتي التي بدأت من قبل أن أبدأ، سفرياتي التي بدأت وأنا في الصف الثامن الإعدادي وتواصلت عمراً طويلاً، لقاءاتي بشخصيات ورؤساء ووزراء، كتاب وعلماء ورجال دين وقادة تنظيمات وجماعات، وأعلام وفنانين وصحفيين، كل هذا احتفظت به الذاكرة، وصانته من الضياع والتشتت، وحافظت عليه لحين لزومه واحتياجاته.
