كتاب "الصديق أبو بكر" للكاتب "محمد حسين هيكل" يروى سيرة الخليفة الراشد أبو بكر الصديق ، فبعد أن فرغ الكاتب من كتابه "حياة محمد" وكتاب "فى منزل الوحى" قرر أن يقوم بدراسة فى تاريخ هذه الإمبراطورية الإسلامية وأسباب عظمتها وانحلالها ، وما دفعه لذلك أن الإمبراطورية الإسلامية كانت أثراً لتعاليم النبى - صلى الله عليه وسلم - وكانت سيرة الصديق هى البداية لهذه الدراسة ، والذى جعله يبدأ بسيرة الصديق أنه كان صفى محمد - صلى الله عليه وسلم - وخليله ، وكان أكثر الصحابة اتصالاً به ، وكان لذلك أكثر تتبعاً لتعاليمه وامتثالاً بها ، وغير ذلك فهو رجل رقيق الخلق ، رضى النفس ، ثم إنه بجانب رفقه ورقته هو الخليفة الأول ، وهو الذى أقر الإسلام حين حاول المرتدون من العرب أن يقوضوا أركانه.
