يدحض الكتاب النظرة غير العلمية الشائعة بأن الأرض تقترب من تغيّر مناخي كارثي نتيجة احترار كوني سببه تراكم غاز (CO2) الناتج من النشاط البشري. ويؤكد أنّ لتغيّر المناخ الذي نمرّ به سوابقَ في التاريخ، وأنّ درجات الحرارة في العقود الحديثة ليست خارجَ مدى التغيّر الطبيعي، فضلاً عن أن تغيّر المناخ يحرّكه وضعُ الأرض من المجرّة، والشمس، والتذبذبات في مدار الأرض، وتيارات المحيط وتكتونيّات الصفائح، ولا يحرّكه تركيز CO2 في الجو.
ويشير الكتاب أيضاً إلى أن مستوى CO2 في أزمنة سابقة كان أعلى من مستواه الحالي، ومع ذلك لم يتغيّر المناخ. وعليه، لا يجد المؤلّف مبرراً لحالة القلق التي تَشيعها الأمم المتحدة وIPCC، وسياساتَ المملكة المتحدة والولايات المتحدة، وأشخاص هوليوديون مشعورون، ويدعو إلى التمييز بين علوم النشاط البيئي الحقيقية، وبين السياسة والانتهازية.
