يختار الكاتب فيصل كيال «الرابع من يونيو» عنواناً يصوغ ذاتيته من خلاله، فهذا التاريخ على مرارته يعني له الكثير؛ ففي ذلك اليوم ودع الكاتب ومدينة جدة بكل الأسى والحزن والدته الكاتبة والدكتورة غادة بنت عبد العزيز الحوطي "رحمها الله". والتي كانت مثالاً يُقتدى به في طرح قضايا المجتمع ومشاكل الناس وحلها.
والآن وبعد مرور سبعة أعوام على رحيل الأم الحنون يبعث الإبن البار إليها بروايته «الرابع من يونيو» كهديةً علّها تصلها وتقرأها في عليائها، علّها تستمع إلى نجواه، علّها تعرف كم هو محتاجٌ إليها، وكم هو يفتقدها في حياته.
الرواية هي عبارة عن مذكرات يسردها الكاتب تحضر فيها أمه "الغائبة" عن حياته، والحاضرة في "وجدانه"، ويتضح ذلك من خلال البحث في فكرة غياب الأم لدى الكاتب/ الراوي على الصعيد الذاتي، وإسهامها في بناء ذاكرته؛ من خلال استمرارها حاضرة في مخيلته على طول سنوات حياته فيما بعد وقد أضاف إليها فصلاً خاصاً يحمل عنوان "خواطر فيصل". يقول الكاتب : "آه يا أمي! سبعة أعوام مضت على آخر مرة لمست فيها يدك، آخر مرة قبلت جبهتك. آه يا أمي! سبعة أعوام مضت على آخر مرة كبرت. بقي شهر على بلوغي سن السادسة والعشرين ولكنني ما زلت أشعر بأني لم أكبر بعد سن التاسعة عشرة، وكيف لي أن أكبر على آخر مرة رأت عيناي عيناك؟ آه يا أمي! أريد أن أصغر. كلما كبرت ومضت سنو عمري زاد حبك وعشقك، آه يا أمي! لا تتركيني وحيداً في الظلمات متيماً بك. عندما دفنتك بيديّ الاثنتين، دفنت معك قلبي…".
