صرخة حادة تنفلت من رواية الخائف والمخيف، حتى تمضي أحداث الرواية حتى النهاية. والأبطال يفصحون عن مكنونات أنفسهم ليرسموا مساراً للرواية التي يصور بها الكاتب خلجات النفس البشرية وهو يرصد أحداث واقعية عاشها وطن وخبرها جيل شاءت له الظروف أن يكون شاهداً عليها. ومن حيث الخوف يدفع بالبشر كي ينغمسوا في لعبته التي يذهب ضحيتها الآلاف منهم.
رواية "الخائف والمخيف" انعكاس لتناقضات مجتمع مزقته الأهواء والرغبات. سخرية من التقاليد والمجتمع، وتلك السلبية التي تميز سلوك الغالبية من أبناء المجتمع أسئلة بلا أجوبة ستظل عالقة حتى تنجلي معالم الصورة وتنقشع ضباب الأحداث. رواية ربما استبقت الأحداث وقدمت استشراقاً لمرحلة قد طال انتظارها رغم أنها لم تأت على وفق ما يريده لكاتب.
