تدور أحداث الرواية حول "عمار"، الشاب العبقري والوسيم الذي يقرر خوض أغرب وأخطر رحلة انتحار في تاريخ البشرية. بعد أن تعرض لسلسلة من الخيانات القاتلة من أقرب الناس إليه (والده، حبيبته، وصديق عمره)، يقرر عمار تزييف موته بتفجير صاروخه الفضائي، ليهرب سراً إلى أبعد وأبرد نقطة في المجموعة الشمسية: كوكب بلوتو.
في ظل برودة قاتلة تصل إلى ٢٤٠ درجة مئوية تحت الصفر، وجاذبية ضعيفة تنهش جسده المنهك، يبني عمار عالمه الخاص داخل كبسولة زجاجية، محاطاً بمزرعة طحالب ودفتر يومياته. وبينما يصارع الموت "البارد" في عزلته الكونية، يكتشف عمار أن الهروب من البشر لا يعني الهروب من ذكراهم، وأن المواجهة الحقيقية ليست مع الجليد، بل مع "أشباح الغدر" التي سكنت روحه.
رواية تمزج بين الخيال العلمي الدقيق والدراما النفسية الموجعة، لتطرح سؤالاً واحداً: هل يمكن للقلب أن يتجمد وينسى، أم أن حرارة الخيانة أقوى من صقيع بلوتو الأبدي؟
