لا نستطيع، فى العادة، أن نصغى إلى صوت الجنون أو همزات المجنون. لا نستطيع أن نتابع أفكاره المنفصلة أو المتصلة. الجنون هو، كما نراه، غير أو لاوجود خالص. غير أن شيئًا ما لايزال يومض أو يومىء بغير ذلك. مادام كل واحد منا يجاهد فى يومه آلاف المرات لينزع عقله من غوايات الجنون. أو ليفلت من سحر نداءه من وراء «حجرات» العقل الثابتة الأركان. وحده الأدب هو الذى يستطيع أن يمسك بالصوت المرتعش، المذعور والهش للعقل. أعنى صوت الجنون أو وجه العقل الآخر. وحده الأدب هو الذى يمكنه أن يتابع خِواره، توجعه وأنينه المتقطع اللاهث. كأنها مسحورة أو ممسوسة أو مأخوذة عن نفسها كبطلات أألف ليلة وليلة، تغيب عنا «أمان» بطلة هذا العمل فى وصلات جنون تصل الحلم بالحقيقة، تقرأ نوازع النفس الخفية، وساوسها ورغبتها الأصيلة فى انتهاك عقلانيتها المزيفة. عبر سرد يستضيف الوهم، الحلم والجنون ويستأنس بهم نصغى إلى أصواتنا الأخرى. ".
