Book Description
(ويَستخدم بعض الكتّاب كلمة «توحد أو ذاتوية» عند الإشارة إلى مجموعة من اضطرابات طيف التوحد أو مختلف اضطرابات النمو المتفشية)، هو اضطراب النمو العصبي الذي يتصف بضعف التفاعل الاجتماعي والتواصل اللفظي وغير اللفظي وأنماط سلوكية مقيدة ومتكررة. وتتطلب معايير التشخيص ضرورة أن تصبح الأعراض واضحة قبل بلوغ الطفل ثلاث سنوات من العمر. ويؤثر التوحد على عملية معالجة البيانات في المخ وذلك بتغييره لكيفية ارتباط وانتظام الخلايا العصبية ونقاط اشتباكها، إلا أن كيفية حدوث ذلك غير مفهوم تماماً حتى الآن. ويعتبر التوحد واحدا من بين ثلاثة اضطرابات تندرج تحت طيف التوحد (ASDs)، ويكوّن الاضطرابان الثاني والثالث معًا متلازمة أسبيرجر، التي تتميز بتأخر النّمو المعرفي واللّغوي لدى الطّفل، أو ما يعرف باضطراب النمو المتفشي ويتم تشخيصه في حالة عدم توفر معايير تشخيص مرض التوحد أو متلازمة أسبرجر.
