بداهة أن كل جماعة بشرية ومهما كان حظها وقدرها من النضج والتطور تقوم حياتها على أساسيات، أو على بنى وطيدة على مستوى الاقتصاد والأخلاق والاجتماع، وتبعاً لذلك فهذه الجماعة ترسخ القواعد القانونية والدينية والأخلاقية لحماية هذه الأساسيات، ومجتمعنا العربي الإسلامي في العصر الوسيط لم يخرج على هذا الناموس وبالتالي فقد كان له أساسياته وراح بتقسيم هذه الأساسيات على أساس ديني حتى أن قواعد الاقتصاد والاجتماع أخذت تصطبغ بهذه السمة الدينية.
ولقد قامت بين جناحي هذه الأمة الكثير من الفرق الدينية وقامت الكثير من الأوصاف مثل الغلو والبدع، كما أن تاريخنا لم يقيم تلك الهيئة المرجعية ليصف هذه الجماعة بالكفر وتلك بالغلو ولاسيما أن هذا الفكر الإسلامي محكوماً بقاعدة: "من اجتهد وأخطأ فله أجر ومن اجتهد وأصاب فله أجران"، ومحكوم أيضاً بالقاعدة الرسولية: "أشققت على قلبه"، ومحكوم بالمبدأ الإلهي: {إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَن يَشَاءُ}.
فهل نقول بعد ذلك على تلك الفرقة التي خرجت على الأمة كافرة؟؟؟ ، فما أكثر ما نسمع عن اتهام الخوارج لأعدائهم بالكفر "اتهام سيدنا عليّ بذلك" أو اتهام السنة للشيعة والعكس، والأمر نفسه اتهام المعتزلة من قبل السنة بذلك مع أن هؤلاء هم الذين تصدوا للدفاع عن الإسلام.
ولكن هذه الاتهامات لا تتعدى النطاق السياسي، وبالتالي لم يعرف التاريخ الإسلامي مرجعية فقهية للتكفير الديني، وترتيباً على ذلك، فإن مقاومة المجتمع الإسلامي لهاتيك الجماعات إنما قام على أساس رفض هذه الجماعات للمجتمع الإسلامي ومناوئة أساسياته مناوأة عملية مادية خارجية يتطبق عليّها الوصف السياسي والقانوني.
