يقف طالب علم العربية في بحثه وتقصيه على الكثير من الظواهر اللغوية بمستوياتها الأربعة: الصوت، والصرف والنحو والدلالة، التي يمكن أن تكشف عن فكر لغوي عميق استطاع علماؤنا من خلاله أن يؤسسوا قواعد متينة حذا حذوها من جاء بعدهم، ومن هذه الظواهر التي درسها القدامى ونبهوا عليها ظاهرة التغليب، إلا أنهم لم يفردوا لها كتابًا خاصًا وإنما اقتصر تناولهم للتغليب في أبواب معينة أو موضوع ضمن موضوعات شتى، اذا جاءت هذه الدراسة المكونة من تمهيد ومقدمة وقسمين، فتناول في التمهيد ظاهرة التغليب وأثرها في الظواهر اللغوية الأخرى، وفي القسم الأول تناول دراسة التغليب على المستويين الصوتي والصرفي، وفي القسم الثاني قدم لنا دراسة التغليب في المستويين النحوي والدلالي.
