يدخل المخرج السوري المعروف "علاء الدين كوكش" عالم الرواية بعمله الإبداعي الجديد "التخوم"، وتحتل هذه الرواية الرقم أربعة من بين مؤلفات كوكش الذي عُرف كمخرج تلفزيوني ناجح على مدى أكثر من أربعين عاماً وله قبل هذه الرواية مسرحيات ضاحكة وهي أربع مسرحيات كوميدية سياسية ومجموعة قصصية بعنوان قصص قصيرة والسفر بعيداً ... يوميات رحلة بعيدة في تايلاند وماليزيا وكلها نُشرت في كتب مستقلة وفي عدة مجلات عربية. وعن هذا العمل يقول كوكش: "إن علاقتي بالكتابة ليست وليدة اللحظة فأنا أكتب منذ زمن طويل مبيّناً أنه قد دخل طوراً جديداً في حياته الإبداعية والمهنية وبأنه سيتوجه بشكل أساسي نحو الكتابة والتأليف". تدور أحداث رواية التخوم في عالم المثقفين، حيث يكشف كوكش لعلاقات هؤلاء مع بعضهم البعض وكل هذه الشخصيات التي تحتلها الرواية لها مواقعها التي لا بأس بها في السلم الإجتماعي. ومن خلال معايشته لهذا المجتمع ومعرفته بما وراء كواليسه، يكون أكثر معرفة واكتشافاً بهذه الحياة "غير المعروفة" لهذه الشخصيات التي أعطاها أسماءً أخرى لكي لا يشهر بها أو يظهر زيفها، بل جلّ ما في الأمر يريد الروائي أن يظهر وقائع الحياة كما تجري فعلاً. وقائع لو نظر كل فرد منّا، بصدق، إلى نفسه وإلى ما يحيط به من تناقضات لوجد أنه يعيش ما يشبهها. "التخوم" هي أكثر من عمل روائي، هي رؤيا كاتب مثقف يكتب بعين المراقب ويدقق في التفاصيل، وفي الهوامش، ويذهب بقلمه إلى أحداث الحياة الواقعية، فيكشف سلبياتها وخباياها بعيداً عن الصور البراقة التي تظهر على السطح والتي تهدف إلى الحفاظ على الصورة التي يرغب بها المجتمع ...
