تحتل دول مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربي أهمية استراتيجية واضحة من خلال موقعها الجغرافي، حيث تربط الوطن العربي بالعالم الخارجي من خلال المنافذ البحرية التي ازدادت أهميتها بشكل كبير بعد تطور التجارة الخارجية، وزيادة كميات السلع المنقولة في إطار هذه التجارة سواء اتصل ذلك بالتصدير أم بالاستيراد، وزيادة التطور في النفل البجري من حيث عدد الناقلات وحمولتها وسرعتها فضلاً عن أهمية موقع هذه الأقطار من الناحية الستراتيجية، وتزايد أهمية دول مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربي هذه بعد أن تأكد امتلاكها لاحتياطيات نفطية كبيرة، وتزايد حجم الانتاج النفطي فيها، وتتلخص مشكلة هذا البحث في أن دول مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربي تعاني من مشكلة التبعية الاقتصادية التي غدت من أخطر ما يواجه اقتصاديات أية وحدة سياسية في العالم سواء في ظروف الحرب أم السلم.
وقد اختار المؤلف هذه المشكلة لاعتبارات عدة، في مقدمتها الكشف عن الواقع الجغرافية السياسية لدول المجلس بشكل خاص كونها تمثل الإقليم الأوفر ازدهاراً في الوطن العربي والذي يمكن أن يلعب دوراً مهماً في تحديد مسارات الامن الإقليمي والقومي على حد سواء. من خلال الكشف عن واقع وملامح مستقبل مشكلة التبعية الاقتصادية لدول هذا الاقليم.
للوصول الى الأهداف المتوخاة تم تفريغ البحث الى أربعة فصول: 1- الأول: خصص لتحديد أهم المفاهيم الرئيسة المستخدمة في البحث مع بيان المؤشرات للقياس الكمي لمشكلة التبعية الاقتصادية. 2- الثاني: خصص لدراسة وتحليل المرتكزات الجغرافية السياسية لدول مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربي. تناول البحث الثالث القياس الكمي لمؤشرات التبعية الاقتصادية من وثائق رسمية منشورة من قبل المنظمات العالمية والدولية والمطبوعات الحكومية. أما في الفصل الرابع وضح المؤلف العلاقات الجغرافية السياسية بين مشكلة التبعية الاقتصادية والامن الاقليمي لدول مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربي.
