في رواية "الإله الصّغير عقراب" يرسم روبار إيسكاربيت لحوادث روايته فضاءً مجازياً لا وجود له، في الواقع المحسوس، فالروائي هنا يتحدث عن إله صغير جداً يدعى عقراب ابتدع جنّة كان يمكنها أن تبدو لأقوامٍ بدائيين جذابة ورائعة، فإذا بها لا تغري أحداً، لا كهرباء فيها ولا تلفزيون، ولا بشر.
وفجأة شعر الإله عقراب في جنته بالوحدة، وذلك بعد آلاف السنين من الرضا بما هو فيه، هناك حيث يعيش في كوكبه بالكاد يزوره أحد، يأتي واحداً من أتباعه، وذلك بعد مرور عشرة أو عشرين قرناً، لكن هذا الإله الصغير / الزائر لا يلبث أن يغادر إلى كوكب آخر أفضل تأثيثاً، فهتا في كوكبه، بذل عقراب كل جهده ليتمكن من تشغيل الكهرباء، لكن لم تتوفر لديه الطاقة الكافية؛ وعقراب هذا كان لديه سبعة أتباع، بعضهم رحل وبعضهم الآخر بلا قوة، فقط أندرول.
يمكن الإعتماد عليه في إعادة تنشيط ألوهة عقراب وإكتسابها أتباعاً جديداً، فأندرول هذا ما زال طفلاً لم يُستنفذ عمره ولا استنفذت طاقته، ثم أنه من دون سائر زملائه الستة، المتوزعين على الكواكب، وأكثرها منطفئ، او الهائمين في السديم بينها، يعيش على كوكب الأرض، مصدر أشدّ المنافسات للآلهة الصغار، فسكان هذا الكوكب "لهم نبوغ غريب في مادة تصنيع الديانات"، وهم قادرون على "صناعة ديانات عديدة في قرن واحد، ديانة صلبة، دائمة ومفتوحة للجميع" وبسبب ذلك "تأسست على الأرض الشركات الدينية الكبرى متعددة الكواكب... بأديرتها ومعابدها وكاتدرائياتها وجوامعها وهياكلها"، وقد فتحت "فروعاً لها حتى في أصغر القرى".
وهكذا يخلط روبار إيسكار بيت الديني بالسياسي، والسماوي بالأرضي في قراءة أحداث هذا العالم وتوقعها أيضاً.
