اختلف العلماء قديما وحديثا في تحديد آل النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام , إلى عدة أقوال متباينة , ومن الأقوال التي قيلت حول آل محمد أنهم أمته, وبالذات الصالحين , وهذا الرأي روي عن جعفر الصادق رضي الله عنه , و كذلك رواه النووي من الشافعية , والذهبي وسفيان الثوري , و ابن حامد وبعض العلماء والباحثين المعاصرين ومنهم العلامة المحدث بن عثيمين رحمة الله , وقد قمت في هذه الرسالة بذكر الأدلة التي ترجح هذا القول , وذلك لأنه القول الذي انشرح له صدري , ولأنه القول الذي يمكن أن ندحر به دعوات الروافض الإثنى عشرية , الذين يخرجون أزواج النبي من آله وأهل بيته , وقد قمت بترتيب هذا البحث إلى ثلاثة فصول , ففي الفصل الأول ذكرت الأقوال الواردة في تحديد آل النبي وفي الفصل الثاني قمت بذكر الأدلة التي تبين الفرق بين الأهل و الآل , على اعتبار أن من حددوا الآل بالقرابة لم يفرقوا بين المصطلحين, وفي الفصل الثالث قمت بذكر الأدلة التي ترجح أن آل النبي هم أتباعه الصالحين إلى قيام الساعة .
