تأتي بعد ذلك خطوة شديدة الأهمية، وهي الانتقال لمحاولة فهم الطرف الآخر ومعرفة توقعاته بالنسبة لنا، لضمان سد جميع الثغرات التي قد يتسلل منها الفشل إلى الحياة الزوجية، أو تجنب استمرارها كمجرد شكل اجتماعي خارجي يحوي حطاما متناثرا من الداخل.
