إن العالم الإسلامي بعد أن تخلى عن موقعه الريادي وتخلى عن أصالته وتاريخه وتراثه انساق وراء الإنسان الأوروبي فترسم خطى الغرب وانغمس في التبعية له، تلك التبعية اقتصادية، وتبعية في المنهج. وكان أن أخذ المسلمون إما بالاقتصاد الحر القائم على أساس رأسمالي، أو الاقتصاد الموجز القائم على أساس اشتراكي وهما اتجاهان مني كل منهما بفشل في مجال التطبيق.
وقد جاء كتاب اقتصادنا ليقدم مقارنة بين الاقتصاد الإسلامي والاقتصاد العربي برأسيه من وجهة نظر اقتصادية مذهبية. وفي هذا المنحة يؤكد مؤلف الكتاب السيد الشهيد محمد باقر الصدر، أن حاجة التنمية الاقتصادية إلى منهج اقتصادي ليست مجرد حاجة إلى إطار من أطر التنظيم الاجتماعي، تتبناه الدولة فحسب، لكي يمكن أن توضع التنمية ضمن هذا الإطار، بمجرد تبين الدولة له، بل لا بد لتحقيق ذلك من أن يدمج هذا الإطار الأمة ضمنه فاعلة ومنفعلة.
وانطلاقاً من أهمية الكتاب وخطورة الدور الذي يؤديه، عكف الشيخ محمد جعفر شمس الدين على تناول هذا الكتاب بالتلخيص غير المخل مع تبسيطه قدر الإمكان وبشكل لا يتنافى مع مستواه الرفيع عوضاً ومناقشة إذ إن مؤلفه قد وضعه أساساً للنخبة من مفكري الأمة، مراعياً في مستوى أفكاره ونظرياته مستواها.
