النيل أطول أنهار الكرة الأرضية ومن خصائصه أنه هو ونهرالفرات يعتبران "أغزر نهرين في الوطن العربي"، يقع في قارة أفريقيا وينساب إلى جهة الشمال، له رافدين رئيسين النيل الأبيض والنيل الأزرق ينبع النيل الأبيض في منطقة البحيرات العظمى في وسط أفريقيا، أبعد مصدر يوجد في جنوب رواندا عند الإحداثيات ومشكلة حوض النيل تقع في قارة هي ثاني أكبر قارة بالعالم بعد آسيا . يحيطها البحر الأبيض شمالا والبحر الأحمر والمحيط الهندي شرقا والمحيط الأطلنطي غربا وفي أقصي شمال شرقها تتصل بآسيا برا في شبه جزيرة سيناء . وهذه القارة متعددة الثقافات وبها مئات اللغات المختلفة . و العديد من القري بها مازالت تعيش عيشة بدائبة لم تتطور منذ مئات السنين . وبها كان مولد الجنس البشري بعد تطوره من جنس القرد منذ 5- 8 مليون سنة.وظهر البشر أسلاف جنسنا المعاصر منذ 130 ألف سنة وحتي 90 ألف سنة. وانتشر علي التتابع خارج القارة الأفريقية . وظهرت الحضارة المصرية القديمة بشمال شرق أفريقيا منذ 5 آلاف سنة . و مع الزمن ظهرت وأفلت ثقافات ودول مختلفة . ومنذ 500 سنة كانت توجد مدن مزدهرة وأسواق عامرة ومراكز ناهضة للتعليم حيث كانت تنتشر بالقارة . حتي أتي المستعمرون الأوربيون كتجارللعبيد وافدين. وكانوا يرسلونهم بالملايين قسرا لتعمير المستعمرات بالكاريبي و شمال وجنوب أمريكا . ونهبوا ثرواتها من خلال إستعمارها بالكامل في القرن 19م. . وبأفريقيا حاليا53 دولة . ويعتبر الوادي المتصدع الكبير أحد الملامح البارزة في طبوغراافية القارة السمراء .
