قصة قصيرة في ظلام لندن أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية، حيث تختبئ المدينة من الضوء كما تختبئ من القنابل، يركض آدم هارلو بين الأزقة حاملاً فكرة أخطر من أي سلاح: فكرة الحرية. لكن كلما اقترب من إشعالها في قلوب الناس، يكتشف حقيقة أكثر رعبًا… أن بعض المدن لا يحكمها الطغاة وحدهم، بل يحكمها خوف الناس من أن يكونوا أحرارًا. وفي مدينة يغرقها الظلام، يبدأ سؤال يهدد كل شيء: هل الطغيان هو من يصنع الخوف… أم أن الخوف هو من يخلق الطغيان؟
