Influenced by Kant's transcendental idealism and Rousseau's politics, Hegel formulated an elaborate system of historical development of ethics, government, and religion through the dialectical unfolding of the Absolute. Hegel was one of the most well-known historicist philosopher, and his thought presaged continental philosophy German philosopher and one of the founding figures of German Idealism. Influenced by Kant's transcendental idealism and Rousseau's politics, Hegel formulated an elaborate system of historical development of ethics, government, and religion through the dialectical unfolding of the Absolute. Hegel was one of the most well-known historicist philosopher, and his thought presaged continental philosophy, including postmodernism. His system was inverted into a materialist ideology by Karl Marx, originally a member of the Young Hegelian faction.

غير أن أهمية هذا النص لا ترجع فقط الى أنه الكلمة الخيرة للفيلسوف حيث كثف فيه نظرته الى المجتمع والتاريخ والسياسة ، ولا الى أن ماركس قد ولد كمفكر في سياق سجاله أو نقده لهذا النص ،
وانما الى الموضوع الذي يعالجه وهو " التحليل الفلسفي للمجتمع " ، اي التحليل الفلسفي أو العقلي لمؤسسات المجتمع : الأسرة ، المجتمع المدني والدولة .
لا بعد ان لا تبدأ في الطيران minerva يقول هيجل في ختام مدخله لهذا الكتاب : " ان بومة مينرفا
الا بعد أن يرخي الليل سدوله " وهذا الكتاب هوتصديق لما ذهب اليه هيجل ، فقد جاء عقب أحداث وتحولات تاريخية جذرية : انتصار الثورة الفرنسية ، سقوط الباستيل ، اجتياح نابليون لاوروبا ، وقبل كل شيىء ولادة المجتمع المدني الحديث بصراعاته وتناقضاته وظهور الدولة الحديثة بسطوتها وهيمنتها ، وبدايات الصراع بين المجتمع المدني والدولة الذي ما نزال نشهد امتداداته في المجتمع الانساني المعاصر .
