يناقش الكتاب فكرة الهوية المصرية و هى التعبير الحديث عن القومية – الهوية هى تعبير سياسى وقانونى بعيداً عن الشوفنية العنصرية التى تميز كل القوميات . تحتوى الهوية على عنصرين ؛ الانتماء والمصلحة فلا انتماء بدون مصلحة . الانتماء لمصر يعنى الانتماء لتاريخ هذا الوطن وثقافته دون النظر الى الاصل او العرق . تاريخ مصر حلقات متواصلة تبدأ بالتاريخ المصرى القديم ثم المرحلة اليونانية الرومانية فالمرحلة القبطية واخيراً المرحلة الاسلامية . نعتز بشكل خاص بالتاريخ الفرعونى كأقدم حضارة فى تاريخ الانسانية وذلك كمدخل للانتماء وليس لاعادة الانتاج . الهوية المصرية تعتز وتؤكد على تراث التسامح وقبول الاخر المختلف وتقاوم كل ثقافة تخالف هذا التراث مثل الوهابية وثقافة الكراهية والتمييز الدينى . فالهوية المصرية هى الرابط الحقيقى بين المصريين المصلحة المشتركة للمسلمين والمسيحيين هى الضمان لاستمرار هذه الهوية وبغض النظر عن تعداد اى منهم لان المصلحة لا علاقة لها بالعدد زاد ام قل .
