كتاب أسوأ المهن في التاريخ (سرد لقصة ألفي عام من العمالة البائسة) – توني روبنسون تناول هذا الكتاب بتفصيلٍ دقيقٍ، ولغة جذابة، أسوأ المهن التي شهدتها بريطانيا عبر تاريخها الطويل. وقد حاول مؤلفه توني روبنسون كشف النقاب عن بؤس الكثرة الكاثرة من السكان، الذين نسيهم التأريخ أو تناساهم كتّابه- حين ركزوا على أخبار الملوك والملكات والفرسان- بتسليط الضوء على بعض المهن التي شغلوها عن رضاً أو إكراه.ورغم اعتراف روبنسون أن اختياراته كانت شخصية بحتة، فإنه سعى جاهداً إلى أن يكون موضوعياً في حصر أسوأ المهن لكل حقبة تاريخية تناولها، ابتداء بالرومانية وانتهاء بالفيكتورية، وبذا كان الكتاب بمثابة سجل تاريخي للحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، والسياسية، ونستطيع -عبره- تلمس التواريخ المحددة لظهور مهنة ما كالقصارة، التي ظهرت في العصور الوسطى، أو اختراع آلة ما كالنسّاجة، التي طورت في العصر الفيكتوري، أو وقوع حدث جلل كالطاعون، الذي حلّ في إنجلترا خلال الفترة الستيوارتية..
