رواية أسطورة سليبي هولو تأليف واشنجتون إيرفينغ، نشرت لأول مرة في عام 1820، وهي من روايات الرعب الخيالية، تدور أحداثها في بلدة تسمى "سليبي هولو" يعيش بها مهاجرين هولنديين، يهجم عليها فارس شبح مقطوع الرأس يقوم بقطع رأس أحد سكان البلدة في كل مرة بحثا عن رأسه المفقود، وبعد استدعاء الضابط "إيكابود كرين" للتحقيق في ثلاث جرائم قتل، يخبره سكان البلدة عن أسطورة الفارس مقطوع الرأس، لكنه لا يصدقها، ويعتقد أنها مجرد قصة أسطورية حتى يقوم الشبح بقطع رأس أحد رجال المدينة أمام عينيه، يبدأ كرين في الإسراع لملاحقة الشبح حتى يعرف سره المظلم وأصل حكايته الحقيقية، مما يسهل له مهمة إرساله مرة أخرى إلى قبره.
