"فجأة، تطرق الباب، الملائكةُ ترتعش، أُلاحظُها، تسير جدتي مثل ربَّانٍ على وشك الغرق، أصابعها دم، يا إلهي! دمٌ أسود وشمع ذائب، تصل الباب وتنظر إلى الوراء، تحديداً إلى وجهي.
أصابعي والملائكة التي تقف خلفي، كلُّها تذوب مثل شمعةٍ كبيرة، أينَ نحن؟ صراخٌ كبير، في السماء؟ على الأرض؟ في الجحيم؟ في الغابات البعيدة والأنواء السوداء؟ لا أدري... لا أدري... تُفتح الباب، ويهجم الصّوت والرجالُ مثل عاصفة محطّمة". "من أنتم؟... هل هو موجود؟".
تتناول هذه الرواية حقبة يسيرة من تاريخ العراق السياسي، مركزّة على تعرية الإيديولوجيات وإنتهاكها للقيم الإنسانية، وهي إذاً غير موجهة لا لحزب ولا لفلسفة، بل توجّه كرهاً شديداً، مبرراً وإستثنائياً للشمولية، معتبرة أن الإيديولوجيات ذات الصبغة الواحدة تحوّل الإنسانية إلى قطيع وآلة صراخ وتطبيل.
والعراق شهد على مر تاريخه استفحال سطوة الإستبداد الملفتة للنظر، حتى بدا كأن الإستبداد أضحى قدراً مريراً لا فكاك منه، هنا محاولة صغيرة في تفكيك الألم.
