كتاب استخفاء الحيوان تأليف ا.م.استفتسن. إن موضوع استخفاء الحيوان من الموضوعات البيولوجية الهامة التي تلعب دوراً كبيراً في صراع الحيوانات من أجل البقاء، وقدعكف على دراسته عدد كبير من الباحثين فوصلواإلى نتائج تدعوا إلى الدهشة والإعجاز، ولاشك أن الصراع القائم بين مختلف أنواع الحيوان صراع هائل رهيب يستمر مدى الحياة ولا يتوقف في أى ساعة من ساعات الليل أو النهار، فكل واحد منها معرض لهجوم من هو اكبر منه حجماً أو أشد قوة، كما ان السائد بينها هو أن يأكل القوى الضعيف أو يفتك الكبير بالصغير، ولذلك كانت دراسة الأستخفاء دراسة شيقة تميط اللثام عن الطرق العديدة التي وهبتها الطبيعة لكثير من الحيوانات حتى تكون في مأمن من فتك أعدائها، وقد يكون أيضاً وسيلة لحصول الحيوان المستخفي على غذائه في سهولة ويسر إذ لاتراه الفريسة التي ترغب في اصطيادها فتقع في فمه لقمة سائغة. ويدرك الزائر لحديقة الحيوان أو معارض الأحياء المائية أن هناك أشكالا مختلفة واوضاعاً متباينة وألوانا متعددة تبدو بها مختلف أنواع هذه الكائنات في وضوح تام، وقد يظن الإنسان لأول وهلة أن هذه الأشكال والأوضاع والالوان ماخلقت إلا للزينة والجمال لكن سرعان ما يتلاشى هذا الظن إذا ما شوهدت هذه الكائنات في بيئاتها الطبيعية فتصبح وكانها جزء منه. ويعالج كتاب "استخفاء الحيوان" هذا الموضوع في دقة علمية تدعوا إلى الدهشة والإعجاب، كما يقدم للقارئ صورة رائعة لهذا العالم العجيب الذي نعيش فيه، فيشرح طبيعة الاستخفاء واهميته في المحافظة على حياة الحيوان او في الحصول على ما يتطلبه من الغذاء، كما يشرح أنواعه الرئيسية موضحاً ان الاستخفاء لا يقتصر على المظهر الخارجي فحسب بل يمتد إلى الوضع والحركة والسلوك مما يساعد على اختفاء الحيوان وايعادة عن مواطن الحظر.
