انظر حولك - إلى الكراسي والمزوعات والناس والأبنية ويدك التي تمسك بها هذا الكتاب، كل شيء يستحق الرسم، ليس مهماً ما تمضيه من وقت في الرسم، إت عشر دقائق تمضيها في الرسم قد تعطي نتيجة أفضل من رسم تمضي فيه ساعات كثيرة.
احمل دفتر رسم كلما استطعت، ولا يستح من إستعماله أمام الناس، استعمله إما للرسم السريع الذي تكمله فيما بعد، أو للرسم المنتهي.
لكي نقوم برسم مفيد لا بد لك من الإستمتاع به، حتى إذا بدأت بشيء لا يهمك بشكل خاص فإنك ستجد بأن رسم ذلك الشيء والنظر إليه بطريقة جديدة - يخلق إثارته الخاصة، كلما قل تفكيرك بكيفية الرسم وكثر التفكير بما ترسم كلما ازدادت جودة رسمك.
إن المعدات الممتازة لن تصنع منك فناناً جيداً، إن رسماً ممتازاً قد ينتج من قلم رصاص صغير على قطعة ورق بالية، ولكن المعدات الجيدة تشجع وهي ممتعة بالإستعمال، لذلك أشتر أفضل المعدات واستعملها بحرية.
كن جسوراً وجرئياً، إنها ورقتك وتستطيع أن تفعل بها ما تشاء، قم بالتجربة على قطعة ورق كبيرة وبالأقلام القاسية واللينة من الطبشور أو الكربون التي تستطيع أن تجدها، واملأ الورقة بالخطوط، بأي من أنواع الرسوم - لكي تحصل على الشعور بالحرية، حتى إذا شعرت بأن لك موهبة لرسم الخطوط الرفيعة بقلم رفيع فإن محاولة الرسم مجدية وسوف يكون ذلك تمريناً جيداً وقد تدهشك النتيجة.
انقذ نفسك، إذا بدا الرسم خطأ، مزق الورقة وابدأ مرة ثانية وثالثة وحتى المرة الرابعة غالباً ما تكون أفضل من الأولى، لأنك تتعلم أكثر عن الموضوع طوال الوقت.
