في هذا الكتاب يتناول الصحفي الأمريكي العالمي "سيروس سالزبيرجر عدداً من الشخصيات العالمية منذ عهد رزفلت وتشرشل وديجول.
وبالنظر لأهمية ديجول فقد أفرد له المؤلف خمسة فصول في مستهل الكتاب، وكتبها مادة مكتملة على غير طريقة الأعمدة الصحفية التي نقلها كما هي في باقي الكتاب، وعرض خلالها على مدى تسع سنوات لأحداث وشخصيات أخرى بأسلوب "اليوميات".
