في بحر الخذلان الهائج، تتخبط سفن خيباته باحثةً عن شاطئٍ لتختبئ فيه هربًا من غضب هذا البحر، لتلتقي قلب بطل حكايتنا، ليأتي الخذلان كطعنة بطيئة تقتله على درجات متتالية. ففي موجات ألم تلاطمه، يجد نفسه متسائلًا عن الأسباب، ويبحث عن أصداف تفسير لأسئلته تخفف من ألم شعوره. فقد يكون الخذلان منفذًا لنا من خطر سيدمرنا نتيجة سوء فهمنا أو اختلاف في مقاس التوقع الذي وضعناه في شخص لا يناسبه أصغر توقع، أو ببساطة لأن الحياة لا تسير كما خططنا لها.
ولكن، على الرغم من مرارة هذه التجربة، يمكن أن نعتبرها درسًا من دروس الحياة، ولأن التجارب تعلمنا أن نكون أكثر حذرًا في منح ثقتنا لأشخاص تستحقها. فالخذلان يُعد سمًا يقتل قلب الإنسان ببطء شديد، كأنه سارق يتسلل إلى أعماق الروح، فيشعر المرء بالوحدة والخيبة. هو ذلك الشعور الذي يبث سمّه ليقضي على وسادات الطمأنينة والأمل، ويؤدي إلى فقدان الثقة في كل شيء، ليحول الحياة إلى لوحة ميتة نابضة بالسواد والألم فقط.
