يبدوا للوهلة الاولى للسامع اوالقارئ ان "العمل" لا يعدو كونه رواية مرعلى احداثها ردحا من الزمن لكنها في الحقيقة ملحمة سطرها ابناء هذا الوطن بالدماء بسبب تخلفهم وغبائهم (على رأي كيسنجر) وطمع الغير فيهم ونهب خيراتهم التي لم يحسنوا التصرف بها فأراد الغرب ان يسترقهم بخيراتهم . وإذا كانت الحروب لم تعد مصدرا للرق, فإن القوى الاستعمارية قد استبدلت الرق بالتبعية الاقتصادية والسياسية, فالتبعية الاقتصادية تمارس الاستعمار بالتجويع, وبالتبعية السياسية تمارس الاستعمار بالتخويف,وكلاهما الوجه الاخر لاسترقاق الشعوب.اصبح التعبير الذي يقدم عادة هو انتساب ذوو السحنة السمراء (ومنهم العرب) المزعوم لحام الابن الملعون من ابناء نوح وهذا ما جعل اللون الاسود مكروها لا من الناحية الجمالية فقط بل لأنه صار رمزا لوصمة اخلاقية...
