إن مكة أشرف بقعة على سطح الأرض والكعبة أطهر وأشرف بيت عرفه الإنسان ووضعه الله للناس للعبادة في الأرض لقوله تعالى: (إن أول بيت وضع للناس) ومكة لها أسمان مكة وبكة وقد جاء القرآن بهما واختلف في الاسمين هل هما لمسمى واحد أو لمسميين على قولين:أحدهما: إنه لمسمى واحد لأن العرب تبدل الميم بالباء فيقولون ضبة لازم ولازب واختلف من قال بهذا على قولين أحدهما أن مكة اسم البلد وبكة اسم البيت. القول الثاني: إن مكة الحرم كله ومأخوذة من قولهم تملكت المخ إذا استخرجته لأنها تمك الفاجر أي تخرجه قال الشاعر: يا مكة الفاجر مكي مكأ ... ولا تمكي مزحجا وعكا
