هذا الكتاب "الشعانبة بدواتهم" هو للمؤلف كوناي، يعتبر من الدراسات الأكاديمية التي إهتمت بتاريخ تطور قبيلة الشعانبة في عهد الاستعمار الفرنسي، الكاتب كلف من طرف معهد البحوث الصحراوية بجامعة الجزائر بعد الاستقلال بإجراء تحقيق حول قبيلة الشعانبة، ليتم تقديمه في شكل دراسة إلى المركز الوطني للبحث العلمي بباريس من أجل طبعه، الكتاب طبع سنة 1968 وتم تقسيمه إلى ثلاث أقسام وكل قسم أدرج تحته مجموعة من الفصول.
القسم الأول كان عنوانه "الوسط والتركيبة"، والقسم الثاني كان عنوانه "الشعانبة الرحل"، القسم الثالث كان عنوانه "الشعانبة المستقرين"، ليختم كتابه بمجموعة من الملاحق تتضمن كرونولوجيا الأحداث عند كل من شعانبة متليلي والمنيعة وورقلة وواد سوف، بالإضافة لمجموعة من الخرائط.
