يضم هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه أكبر عدد من رباعيات الخيام ترجم الى العربية قط، نظماً أو نثراً. وليست العبرة بالعدد بطبيعة الحال، ولكني اعتمدت في الترجمة ست نسخ فارسية، في كل منها من الرباعيات ما ليس في الأخريات. فجعلت أتعقب في انحائها كل رباعية شرود، شأن الصياد، فكلما وقعت عيني على واحدة تمثل جانباً من جوانب تفكير الخيام أو فلسفته اقتنصتها ووضعتها لك في قفص من العروض. فوقعت في هذه المجموعة رباعيات لم يسبق ترجمتها الى العربية، هي من خيرة ما جادت به قريحة الحكيم الفارسي، ومنها ما لم يكن معروفاً منذ بضع سنوات أنه للخيام، مما كشف عنه الباحثون أخيراً.
