إني لشغفي بالعلوم العقلية، والمعارف اليقينية، كنت أوقات فراغي أنظر في كتب علمائها، واقتفي كلام الناظرين فيها، مقتبسًا من نتائج خواطرهم، ومستفيدًا من أبكار أفكارهم، لأميز بين حقها وباطلها، وأقف على سمينها وغثها، فأظفر بما يطمئن منه النفس ويسكن إليه القلب، فعثرت في أثناء طلبي على كتاب يعرف بالمصارعات للشيخ تاج الدين أبي الفتح محمد بن عبد الكريم الشهرستاني، ادعى فيه مصارعته م إني لشغفي بالعلوم العقلية، والمعارف اليقينية، كنت أوقات فراغي أنظر في كتب علمائها، واقتفي كلام الناظرين فيها، مقتبسًا من نتائج خواطرهم، ومستفيدًا من أبكار أفكارهم، لأميز بين حقها وباطلها، وأقف على سمينها وغثها، فأظفر بما يطمئن منه النفس ويسكن إليه القلب، فعثرت في أثناء طلبي على كتاب يعرف بالمصارعات للشيخ تاج الدين أبي الفتح محمد بن عبد الكريم الشهرستاني، ادعى فيه مصارعته مع الشيخ الرئيس أبي علي الحسين بن عبد الله بن سينا، في عدة من المسائل الحكمية والرد عليه فيما ذكره في كتبه، فدعتني دعواه إلى النظر فيه، واشتد حرصي من استماع اسمه على التأمل في معانيه، فلما طالعته وجدته مشتملًا على قول سخيف، ونظر ضعيف، ومقدمات واهية، ومباحث غير شافية، وتخليط في الجدال، وتمويه في المثال، قد مازج به سفهًا يحترز منه العلماء، ورفثًا من القول لا يستعمله الأدباء، اللهم إلا المتشفين بالانتقام، والمتسوقين عند العوام.
فرأيت أن أكشف عن تمويهاته، وأميز بين تخليطاته، غير ناصر لابن سينا في مذاهبه، لكن مشيرًا إلى مزال أقدام صاحبه، ومنبهًا على مغالطات مشاغبه، ونقلت فيه من متن كتابه ونص كلامه، من صدره إلى ختامه، لئلا يحتاج من يقع إليه هذه النسخة إلى طلب أصل الكتاب، وسميته بعد إتمامه بمَصارع المُصارع.
